Visitors to the Museum of Danish America during the week of August 14-18 will have a chance to participate in the making of a new kinetic sculpture that will be installed near the museum’s entrance. This art project, under the direction of artist-in-residence Anni Holm, will take the form of a mobile composed of hundreds of “decommissioned” Danish Brotherhood ribbons.

The fronts of the ribbons resemble the Danish flag, while the other side will be altered to collectively resemble the American flag. Therefore, with airflow and movement, the assemblage will allow for an ongoing transformation between the two banners. Holm has titled the work “Assimilātus Mōbilis.”

Born in Denmark, Holm has lived and worked in the Chicago area since 1999. Her work was previously exhibited at the museum in a solo show in 2009 and most recently as part of a curated selection in 2015. This project and program are supported by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

The museum’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/danishmuseum) will feature daily progress reports with photos.
